Bali Textiles

          Bali Island is also famous for the rich variety of cloths and materials that usually can be seen in small shops throughout the island. However, only a small proportion of these are indigenous to Bali. The batik clothes and sarongs are mainly imported from Java. The woven cloths that usually called Ikat, usually found in Kuta and Legian, but these are also imported from the Sumba and Flores Island. But actually, Bali has a rich tradition of textile industry on their own.
The Songket that usually worn by the traditional dancers are one of them. In this fabric, the gold and silver threads are woven into the cloth to create complex motifs such as birds, butterflies and flowers. Batik is also popular among tourists and locals. Bali’s own home-produced cloth is a weft ikat called endek. This fabric is made by tying the weft threads of a cloth before it is woven and then dye them so that they will tied around the areas and do not absorb the dye.
